Distributed Ledger Technology is a Blockchain-based registration system that keeps track of transaction records transact between network participants. The platform is being issued in the public interest to control SMS spam from different marketing companies.

As per TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), India's telemarketers need to register with the DLT platform. Previously, only bulk SMS providers were required to register with TRAI regulations to send promotional messages to the customers. However, with the updated guidelines, every individual or entity who wants to send marketing messages to the customer needs to register with DLT.

The main aim of implementing DLT registration is to maintain communication transparency and reduce SPAM incidence that takes place through SMS. It curbs the Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC) and improves mobile subscribers' privacy within the country. These mandatory regulations apply to customers using SMS Services in India only.

Why is DLT Mandatory?

DLT registration implemented by TRAI prevents customers from Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC). It will restrict businesses from sending spontaneous messages and fraud calls to customers.

According to TRAI's guidelines, DLT registrations are mandatory for bulk SMS providers to continue providing valuable telecom services. In short, DLT registration is compulsory to prevent any fraudulent practices.
