What Is DLT Registration?

DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) is a blockchain-based system mandated by TRAI to curb SMS spam and ensure transparency in commercial communications. All businesses sending SMS (promotional, transactional, or service-related) must register on a DLT platform.

Step-by-Step Entity Registration Process

1. Register as a Principal Entity

  • Choose a DLT portal (e.g., Airtel, Jio, Vodafone-Idea, BSNL, Videocon)
  • Submit KYC documents:
    • PAN Card
    • GST Certificate / CIN / TAN / FSSAI License
    • Letter of Authorization
    • Business Proof (e.g., Shop Act License)

2. Register Headers (Sender IDs)

  • Choose between:
    • Transactional (e.g., OTPs)
    • Service Implicit/Explicit (e.g., alerts, offers)
    • Promotional (e.g., marketing campaigns)
  • Headers must be 6-character alphanumeric and match your brand identity.

3. Register Content Templates

  • Use {#var#} for dynamic fields (e.g., OTP, name, amount)
  • Include your brand name in every template
  • Categorize correctly: Transactional, Service Implicit, Service Explicit, Promotional

4. Consent Template Registration

  • Required for Service Explicit and Promotional messages
  • Must show proof of customer opt-in

5. PE-TM Binding

  • Link your Principal Entity with your Telemarketer (SMS provider) using their Telemarketer ID

Registration Fees

  • Entity Registration: Free on most platforms
  • Telemarketer Registration: ₹5,000 + GST (one-time)
